Vevo

The popular online video site, YouTube, and the biggest music company, Universal Music Group, join forces. The two decided to create a joint online site for music videos called Vevo.

Universal will contribute high level content to YouTube ab d YouTube will contribute its large audience to the equation. Combining these two elements can make for a very attractive platform for advertisers, which will increase the two companies' revenues.

  1. But don't you worry that this could put even more importance on pop music or music that lends itself to good video and pop culture, as that's where the mass audiences (and thus advertising dollars) would be? Couldn't something like this further marginalize classical music as they would not get the kinds of audiences popular music genres get, and thus the companies wouldn't necessarily see the value in producing or making classical music videos?

  2. There are a few classical artists who already published interesting videos online. Maybe this will encourage more classical musicians to do so.

  3. It's a shame that it is only major record label content, there is some great independent music that I hope they index in their video directory.

    Good post though :)

    Here's my take..
